During one of my many online searches for all things Nilsson, I happened across a poster for Harry’s National End Handgun Violence campaign. The illustration was instantly recognisable as the work of Doonesbury cartoonist, Garry Trudeau and after much research managed to get in touch with Mr. Trudeau directly.
I asked if he could tell me a little about the poster concept and if it was Harry that asked him to get involved.
I can’t recall who actually asked me to do the poster, although I’m pretty sure that had it been Harry Nilsson, I’d remember.
… at the time, I had a storyline in the strip in which Duke shoots his caretaker, Zeke Brenner, whom he mistakes for a prowler. He was literally the poster child for irresponsible gun ownership.
Later he became a lobbyist for the NRA.
