From the Album

When it comes to the organization of the content here on NilssonVinyl, the goal has always been to make things as easy and intuitive to access as possible. Today, I’m launching a new feature called, ‘From the Album’. You’ll find this new tag on many of the pages that feature Singles and EP’s. Can’t quite remember which album the track ‘It’s Been So Long’ originates from? Just check the top right of the page.

The approach I’ve taken is to only display this information for Singles and EP’s where all tracks originate from the same album. To do otherwise would get very messy, very quickly. As this feature has been introduced post launch, I’ve had to go back and individually review every entry so there’s certainly a chance I’ve missed one or two entries but overall things should be pretty well covered.

I hope you find this new feature helpful and please remember to check back here from time to time for announcements of other new features as they become available.

Mad Cat Live Band to Present Harry Nilsson’s THE POINT

Mad Cat Theatre Company continues its popular concert series MAD CAT LIVE! with their presentation of Harry Nilsson’s THE POINT, an all ages concert about a boy named Oblio and his dog Arrow. The Mad Cat Live! Band features professional musicians and performers who have graduated from such prestigious schools as University of Miami School of Music and Berklee College of Music. Mad Cat Live! first began with the popular presentation of Paul & Linda McCartney’s album RAM in August earlier this year. It featured Mad Cat Live! band members Erik Fabregat, Jim Camacho, Steph Taylor, Darren Bruck, Brian Sayre, and Matt Corey.

A Grail In The Collection – New Nilsson Songs

It took quite a bit of searching, pestering dealers, making myself a nuisance to other collectors and generally praying to the collecting gods but happily a grail of a Nilsson record has finally found its way into my collection.

In 1967 Perry Botkin and Gil Garfield’s publishing company, Rock Music Co. released a demo LP to promote a hot new rising star, Mr. Harry Nilsson. Not many copies of New Nilsson Songs were pressed and while its purpose was clearly to alert key insiders to Harry’s talents strangely there are tracks that don’t feature Nilsson as either singer or composer.

Collectors take note, there was no proper jacket to accompany this pressing. Instead, a plain white inner sleeve with, ‘LEAD SHEETS ON REQUEST’ stamped on both sides was used. I’ve never seen a copy of these lead sheets but if they’re out there I hope to track them down one day even if it’s just to feature here on the site.
