A new addition to the collection, this time by way of Spain. A lovely white label promo of Subterranean Homesick Blues / Mucho Mungo Mt. Elga.

Nilsson Down Under
Today’s recent addition is a good example of a conundrum I often face when adding new items to the archive here. Do I upload images that are representative of what a collector is likely to find when looking for the record, or a more idealised version? In this case, it’s a bit more idealised by which I mean you’re unlikely to find this particular record cover in this condition.
The Australian pressing of “Nilsson” is actually “Harry” but with a completely different cover and title. The cover itself is almost impossible to find without ringwear due to it being black laminate so when I added a nearly ringwear free copy to my collection, I decided to go ahead and clean up the scans in Photoshop to remove any indication of wear. It is after all, as the cover was intended and what we as collectors would hope to find. Just be realistic when hunting for it – you’ll be in good company if you end up with a cover that shows signs of the record housed within.
Mucho Raro Acetate
Another piece I’m very proud to have welcomed into my collection recently is a rare acetate featuring Mucho Mongo & Subterranean Homesick Blues that once belonged to John Lennon.
Back in 1974 when Lennon was performing on and producing Nilsson’s Pussy Cats, John would have acetates cut so he could bring them home for further review. This particular acetate features the final and approved mix. John gifted this copy to his assistant Mario Casciano in 1975 where it stayed before eventually making its way through collecting circles.
River Deep Mountain High Promo
I’ve seen a couple of copies of these floating around in the past and sellers always ask absurd sums. I stayed away as the label seemed somewhat questionable to me but over time read a couple of things here and there that lead me to believe they’re legit. Recently one came up for a very reasonable amount so took a shot and now it’s safely housed in my usual Japanese rice paper inner / white Cardboard outer / Japanese outer sealed sleeve combination that protects all of my 45s (more on that another day as I’ve been asked before how I store things).
