Filtering Harry Nilsson Vinyl

Another site update here as we introduce results filtering. Now, when you’re browsing through a page of Japanese vinyl you can filter those results to only show you Singles from Japan or Promos, etc etc.

Looking for a particular title such as ‘Without You’? Now, when you’re on the search results page you can refine what’s returned by filtering by Country and Tag.

Hopefully these new filters will make it even easier to find exactly what you’re looking for.

The Harry Nilsson Discography

Well, it might seem like the most obvious feature for a site such as this but to date, we’ve never had a Harry Nilsson Discography. Today, that wrong has been righted.

The new Discography page covers all of Harry’s studio album releases as well as links to any singles, EPs, or Demos from those albums. Simply click on any album cover art to be taken to that album’s page or hover over an album to reveal a link to the Singles, EPs, Demos, etc from that album

The list in its current incarnation may be slightly contentious as it includes some but not all of Harry’s soundtracks. I think the list as it stands is sound but it may evolve in time. Without doubt more singles will be added for the various albums so be sure to check the Discography page from time to time.

Quadraphonic Nilsson

Following a post from a fellow member in the Harry Nilsson Facebook Group today (Hi Kirt), I’ve added a new tag here called ‘Quad’ which stands for Quadraphonic or Quadradisc. There were (appropriately) four of Nilsson’s LPs offered as Quadraphonic releases and while you’d really need a quadraphonic system to full appreciate the mixes, playing these LPs on a standard stereo system still offers an interesting listening experience.

An in-depth explanation of Quadraphonic sound can be found online but roughly it’s about using four channels to reproduce signals independently of one another – kind of like surround sound. Kind of. When producing the Quad versions of Nilsson’s LP, it was used as an opportunity to play around a little with the mixes. In some cases alternate vocals and instrumentation being introduced. If you’ve never heard Nilsson’s Quad pressings, do yourself a favour and grab a copy if you can but beware of sellers who believe them to by hyper-rare and therefore deserving of exorbitant prices. They’re not and they’re not.

From the Album

When it comes to the organization of the content here on NilssonVinyl, the goal has always been to make things as easy and intuitive to access as possible. Today, I’m launching a new feature called, ‘From the Album’. You’ll find this new tag on many of the pages that feature Singles and EP’s. Can’t quite remember which album the track ‘It’s Been So Long’ originates from? Just check the top right of the page.

The approach I’ve taken is to only display this information for Singles and EP’s where all tracks originate from the same album. To do otherwise would get very messy, very quickly. As this feature has been introduced post launch, I’ve had to go back and individually review every entry so there’s certainly a chance I’ve missed one or two entries but overall things should be pretty well covered.

I hope you find this new feature helpful and please remember to check back here from time to time for announcements of other new features as they become available.
